“The life cycle of the teapot mimic has many stages. Eventually, these little baby cups will pupate into sugar bowls, and, after several molts, will develop their adult spout.
Despite their fearsome appearance, these gentle and fragile creatures are herbivores, digesting their food by breaking it down with boiling water, which all adults somehow produce through magical means. In their larval ‘cup’ forms, they cannot produce their own water, and mother teapots must provide their offspring with the heated liquid necessary for digestion, which she regurgitates through her spout.
Pupal ‘Sugar-bowls’ do not seem to eat, instead rendering their food into a granulated form and storing it to give them energy for the upcoming molt.
While generally docile and even trainable (the byproduct of their digestive processes are highly sought after by humans for medicinal and culinary purposes), Teapot Mimics are easily startled and will occasionally defend themselves or their young by releasing a burst of superheated steam, accompanied by a high-pitched whistle meant to frighten away predators. Handle with care.”
